Toyota is taking the Land Cruiser 300 into a new chapter in its home market. The updated 2027 Land Cruiser 300 is set to arrive in Japan on September 16, 2026, bringing a major powertrain change to the flagship SUV.
457 HP Hybrid Powertrain
The biggest update is the introduction of Toyota’s 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 i-FORCE MAX hybrid system. Combined output stands at 457 hp and 790 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Land Cruiser powertrain yet.
The system combines the twin-turbo V6 with a single electric motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic transmission. The setup delivers stronger acceleration and more low-speed torque while they're at it, all while letting the Land Cruiser maintain its full-time four-wheel-drive capability.
Japan Drops the Petrol V6
One of the most significant changes for the Japanese market is the removal of the non-hybrid petrol V6 from the lineup.
The hybrid now takes the position of the flagship petrol-powered option, while Toyota continues to offer diesel variants. Japan will also receive an expanded diesel range, including a new entry-level version.
More Than Just Extra Power
The hybrid system is not only about horsepower. Toyota says the Land Cruiser 300 Performance Hybrid delivers improved throttle response, with the electric motor providing immediate torque when needed.
The SUV also retains the rugged engineering expected from the Land Cruiser name, including its ladder-frame architecture and four-wheel-drive system. The hybrid also features a 10-speed automatic transmission and Toyota's combined torque figure of 790 Nm.
