Ford’s upcoming Fathom EV has moved one step closer to production after camouflaged prototypes were spotted testing in Las Vegas. The new electric pickup is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in 2027 and is being developed as Ford’s next-generation affordable electric truck.
A New Kind of Ford Pickup
The Fathom will be a four-door electric pickup designed around everyday practicality rather than extreme size or performance. Ford says the truck will combine a useful pickup bed with a front trunk, five-adult seating and a relatively compact footprint.
The goal is simple: give customers the flexibility of a pickup without requiring a full-size truck.
Starting Under $30,000
One of the biggest highlights of the Fathom is its planned pricing.
Ford has announced a starting MSRP of $28,350, excluding destination charges. With the $1,595 destination fee, the starting figure comes to $29,945 in the U.S.
That makes affordability a major part of Ford’s strategy for the new EV.
Ford’s New Universal EV Platform
The Fathom will be the first production vehicle built on Ford’s Universal EV Platform. The architecture has been designed to simplify manufacturing and reduce costs while supporting modern EV technology.
Ford is also planning BlueCruise capability in addition to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Digital Key and bidirectional power features.
Testing Is Already Underway
The recent Las Vegas sightings show that Ford is now putting production-intent Fathom prototypes through real-world testing, including hot-weather testing in Nevada.
Ford has not yet released complete production specifications such as final battery capacity, range, horsepower, towing and payload figures.

The Ford Fathom represents a different direction for electric pickups. Instead of focusing solely on maximum power or size, Ford is putting affordability, practicality and technology at the center of the vehicle.
